She had tried Facebook itself, but found that it didn't fit her ideas, and so she moved on to learn more about Instagram. As a social media platform example Instagram is certainly different in that the FOAF (friend of a friend) networking is clearly not the main point.
She told me that she was thinking of Instagram as more similar to what she used to use. Which she explained had been a blog-style website back around 15 years or so. In the conversation I had with her, she asked if I was familiar with Substack. I told her "of course I'm familiar with Substack, I've had been blogging on Substack & other places for most of the past 25 years".
But towards the end of our conversation about this type of self-publishing, journaling, self-promotion and/or content curation, she shared her thoughts about what her so-called favorite formats were. Among the many things she tried to do to publish things on her blog, and with the need to keep being creative about what to write about or even the type of content she felt would resonate with readers, she explained that she loved to share quotes.
Quotes from well-known people, quotes from not-so-well-known people, and that posting quotes had always been inspiring to her. So her idea was to start with a quote from somebody, and then write about what she thought about the quote.
Her point was, that this would be the way to express herself, and share what the quote did for her. Inspiration, motivation to communicate. A need to put words to the emotions that some quotes are always able to generate.
In the altered way that Instagram is designed or intended to be used, she told me that she realized that a pictorial equivalent to a text quote, adds a lot in terms of creative communication. She explained to me that she would find a quote that she wanted to use, then she would open up Canva to work on a graphic design. And the result was that she could produce a poster or flyer version of the quote, using beautiful backgrounds and other graphic design elements that would turn the quote into "eye-candy" (my way of describing such things).
And ultimately she said, she was satisfied with the types of comments that her viewers shared with her about her efforts to use thoughtful creativity to create a feeling of VIBING WITH HER TRIBE.
So here is MY quote to share, to sow some seeds that others may help to flourish and grow...
